CARS
In
July 1, 1992, the Central Answering and Response Service unit (CARS) was
established to receive, document, and direct all maintenance and
departmental service requests through formal work orders to appropriate
shops.
Three to five operators are available to
receive all incoming work requests via the above channels of
communication. Work requests may be initiated by the general campus
customer, internal physical plant personnel, or other sources.
Upon receiving a work request, CARS staff determine whether the requested
service is a chargeable PR funded activity, which would require a Customer
Number (also known as 'B' number); or if it falls under the general building
maintenance responsibilities and will be a non-chargeable GPR funded
service.
Once all necessary information is gathered from the customer, the work
request is entered in our work order management system and is
electronically assigned to all the necessary shops for prioritization and
action.
To-date, over 400,000 work requests have been received and processed
through this unit, providing an ideal one-stop-shopping to our customers.
